Chezzetcook: an Acadian Stronghold

Chezzetcook, on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore, has a fascinating history. Despite being largely cut off from the rest of the Acadian world from the time of the Great Expulsion in 1763, the French-speaking community around Chezzetcook maintained its language, customs, and sense of self. Although the use of French declined rapidly in the 20th century, it is experiencing a resurgence over the past few decades.

This book explores the history, customs, economy, folklore, and spirit of the people of Chezzetcook.A new phase in the community’s history is just beginning, as present and future generations carve out a new place for Chezzetcook in Acadian and Maritime society.
