The old French territories of the Duchy of Savoie (or Savoy) are fascinating places, rich not only in history but also folklore that has emerged from the natural beauty of the area with the highest mountains, largest and deepest lakes and the densest forests.
These short stories include two from local folklore: the stories of Ondine set in the turbulent River Sierroz and the fate of the village of Pluvis. Two others are from local tales: the murder of a young migrant farm labourer and the discovery of a beautiful cave system that lies above a magnificent waterfall. The final two stories are pure fiction with the idea for ’The Bend in Time’ developed during a drive through the Tunnel du Chat. The final story is about three likeable illegal immigrants from Senegal’s Peanut Basin who are helped to make their way to our beautiful Savoie by a human trafficking organisation ably assisted by well-meaning humanitarian associations.
