圖書名稱:Body Oxygen Homeostasis and Mitochondrial Function: From Animal Models to Clinical Applications

內容簡介

This book links oxygen metabolism from experimental animal models to human clinical applications, bringing together concepts and knowledge from laboratory models to clinical practice. In particular, the book provides the experimental results of a rat model exposed to various protocols that prove the suggested monitoring approach, describes the various monitoring devices developed for patients’ monitoring in clinical situations, and provides a discussion of the results as well as conclusions.

The book is ideal for a range of basic scientists, seeking greater understanding of the clinical applications and potential translation of in vitro and animal model studies as well as a range of clinicians, seeking greater understanding of the fundamentals of oxygen metabolism and homeostasis.

作者簡介

Prof. Avraham Mayevsky is a Professor Emeritus in The Mina & Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences and the Leslie and Susan Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat-Gan, Israel.

Prof. Avraham Mayevsky’s field of research since he started his Post-Doc training with Prof. Britton Chance in 1972, was Energy metabolism, including mitochondrial function in vivo, of the brain mainly and other tissues In Vivo, exposed to various pathophysiological conditions. During the 50 years of activity he was able to accomplish a large number of goals that have a very significant impact on the understanding of pathophysiological processes in the brain and other organs evaluated under In Vivo conditions. His vision was to develop experimental approaches and tools that will enable him to study various physiological processes in experimental animals and at the same time, will be ready for clinical applications.

Dr. Efrat Barbiro-Michaely is a lab manager in the Mina & Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences and the Institute of Nanotechnology & Advanced Materials at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat-Gan, Israel.

From 1996 to 2000, Dr. Michaely pursued her Ph.D. in Prof. Mayevsky’s lab, where her research focused on the impact of elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) on brain metabolism. This was evaluated in real-time using Prof. Mayevsky’s multiparametric monitoring device. Following her graduation, Dr. Michaely became Prof. Mayevsky’s lab manager, a position she held for ten years. During this time, she contributed to numerous brain physiology studies, including research on brain injury, elevated ICP, brain retraction, ischemia, hypoxia, and epilepsy. She is a contributing author to 19 publications and numerous scientific posters. After Prof. Mayevsky’s retirement, Dr. Michaely transitioned her scientific focus to the field of microfluidics and is now the lab manager for Prof. Doron Gerber at Bar-Ilan University’s Nano Center. Currently, she is involved in the development of various microfluidic devices for diverse studies. Examples include testing the effect of an array of anti-cancer drugs on cancer cells and evaluating interactions between proteins, nucleotides, small molecules, and toxins involved in a wide range of fields.

Dr. Michael Tolmasov is a lab manager in the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research center at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat-Gan, Israel.

From 2003 to 2007, Dr. Tolmasov pursued his Ph.D. in Prof. Mayevsky’s lab, where his research focused on the Real Time Multiparametric Monitoring of the Brain and Small Intestine in Critical Experimental Conditions. This was evaluated in real-time using Prof. Mayevsky’s multiparametric monitoring device. Following his graduation, Dr. Tolmasov held R&D roles at XTL Biopharmaceuticals, D-Pharm and MD Biosciences specializing in neurovascular and hepatology models. thereafter, Dr Tolmasov became Prof Stern’s lab manager, a position he held for five years. During this time, Dr. Tolmasov has conducted advanced research on neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, using electrophysiological methods and animal models. He is a contributing author to 11 publications and numerous scientific posters. Dr. Michael Tolmasov is currently engaged in cutting-edge research on Alzheimer’s disease, focusing on tauopathy-related neurodegeneration. His work utilizes intracellular brain electrophysiology, microsurgical techniques, and immunohistological analysis in transgenic tau

mouse models to investigate the cellular mechanisms underlying cognitive decline. This multidisciplinary approach aims to identify early functional changes in neuronal circuits and explore potential therapeutic targets for Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Mira M Mandelbaum-Livnat is the Vice President (VP) at Forum MD, a company specializing in medical expert opinions across all legal fields related to personal injury. She earned her Ph.D. in the combined track for excellent students at the Brain Research Center, Faculty of Life Sciences, Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan, Israel, under the supervision of Prof. Avraham Mayevsky. Her research focused on the effects of hemorrhage and hemorrhagic shock on brain and small intestinal vitality. With a strong academic foundation in biotechnology and brain physiology, Dr. Mandelbaum-Livnat has held several senior roles in clinical research, regulatory affairs, and scientific project management in leading medical centers across Israel. Her career combines expertise in in-vivo experimentation, clinical trial studies and strategic leadership, contributing to advancements in both experimental and applied medical science.
