Mauritius and African Human Rights Law: A Critical Assessment of Challenges and Prospects

Dr. Roopanand Mahadew is an Associate Professor in Law at the Department of Law of the University of Mauritius since 2013. He holds an LL.B. (Hons) degree from the University of Mauritius, an LL.M. in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria and an LL.D. from the University of Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa. He served as External Expert in the Working Group on Children’s Rights and Business to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (August 2021 to August 2023). He has authored over 50 journal articles, book chapters and publications on a range of issues on Mauritian human rights law and the African human rights system. His research interests include public international law and international human rights law with focus on the African human rights architecture.
