Merrell (semiotics, Purdue University) asks the reader to step back and prepare to look at the world with fresh vision. Basing his vision on the work of Charles Pierce in process philosophy, Merrell goes beyond these to emphasize the interconnectedness of things, particularly the mindbody. For him the universe in continually in flux, in the process of becoming. Using examples from physics, Buddhism, art and daily life, he explores the triadic nature of perception, comprehension and expectation. A less technical version of this would be of interest to the general reader. Annotation 穢2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
