Robert Louis Stevenson(羅伯特.路易斯.史蒂文森)was born in Scotland in 1850. He was often sick as a child and spent many days reading at home because he couldn’t attend classes at school. Stevenson went to university at seventeen and he studied engineering and then law. He didn’t finish his studies and started travelling and writing. He became a full-time writer and author in 1876, and married Fanny Osbourne in 1880.
Stevenson had health problems and he and Fanny travelled abroad looking for a climate that was good for him. Stevenson used his travel experiences in his books. He travelled widely to England, France, Switzerland, the United States and the South Pacific. He even travelled on a schooner yacht for six years, visiting Tahiti, Hawaii, Australia and Samoa.
When he was forty, he decided to stop travelling and he built a home in Samoa. He spent the rest of his life in Samoa. He was very popular with the local people, and helped them with their rights and quickly in 1894 and was buried on the island.
Stevenson is still a very popular author and his books are translated in many languages all over the world. His two most popular books are The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Treasure Island, both of which have been made into films.
