Influence of noradrenaline on the uptake of ovalbumin (pinocytosis)

Microglia cells are the smallest glial cells. They are professional macrophages of the CNS and protect it. Microglia phagocytose foreign bodies and cell fragments, and their tasks also include antigen presentation and the elimination of apoptotic neurons and glial cells during embryonic development. Noradrenaline is a neurotransmitter produced in the adrenal glands and nervous system and subsequently released into the blood. This neurotransmitter suppresses neuroinflammation in the CNS and promotes the production of neurotrophic (nerve-acting) factors. It also modulates neurodegenerative processes in the CNS. Noradrenaline is an interesting area of research, as it is now known that inflammatory reactions in the CNS contribute to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. There are several thousand noradrenaline-producing cells in the locus caeruleus. When these die, diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease occur. (Missbauer et al, 2016)
