Considering India and the world, the Wetland area is growing exponentially. As the concept of wetland is new, the approach to it is new. Currently, the treaty has been accepted by 171 nations including India. There are 2414 Wetlands of International Importance under Ramsar treaty spreading over 254,540,512 ha of lands across the globe. India’s tally of 49 designated wetlands spread over 10,936 sq km in 18 states and two Union Territories is the largest network of Ramsar Sites in South Asia, tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the latest inclusions.
