One of humanity’s greatest challenges is related to overcoming the problems linked to hunger and poverty in which some people find themselves. Among the main strategies for action is the promotion of backyards through agricultural production, where vegetables can be grown and species such as chickens, rabbits, goats, pigs, among others, can be raised. This document describes and analyzes the dynamics of innovations in backyard production in Mexico City. The data were obtained through a project coordinated by the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo and SEDAR (formerly SAGARPA). The objective of the research was to describe the production systems before and after the project intervention and through this to develop recommendations for future interventions. In conclusion, the research highlights that extensionists and government institutions are relevant actors to achieve the successful adoption of innovations, and that this helps to increase backyard productivity and, given the literature, leads to food and nutritional security.
