I’m Danielle Navarro, an elementary school teacher and psycho-pedagogue. Even as a resident of a municipality neighbouring a capital city, I’ve been able to understand, in various situations, the difficulties faced by country dwellers, one of which was that of gaining a higher education. In order to achieve this feat, our fellow countrymen used to go back and forth (by bus) every day to the capital or to Maracajú (a neighbouring city) to study at a face-to-face college; these journeys were paid for, long and very tiring. On several occasions, these students were left on the roads at dawn. Faced with this situation, this is the result of the research I am presenting to you, since Distance Education has become an emerging topic and, due to its current scope, has also taken up space in academic research. So I saw the importance of looking at distance education, a little of its history and the role of the tutor in distance education courses in the municipality of Sidrolândia, in the interior of Mato Grosso do Sul. May you enjoy reading it!
