Health of the Elderly: Nutritional and psychosocial aspects

This book presents some general considerations about the ageing process and its relationship with nutrition and the emotional state of the elderly. It is hoped that it will guide and stimulate the development of educational practices in the health of the elderly by health professionals and/or managers who are willing to better understand the ageing process. Chapter I deals with the Nutritional Assessment of the Elderly, which aims to identify individuals at increased risk of complications associated with their nutritional status, so that they can receive appropriate nutritional therapy. Chapter II deals with Nutritional Recommendations for the Elderly, where nutrition plays a crucial role in the conditions associated with the elderly. Chapter III deals with Nutrition Education for the elderly, which is a strategy recommended by public policies on food and nutrition. Chapter IV deals with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases and deficiency in the elderly, whose modifiable risk factors include inadequate eating habits. Chapter V deals with Psychology and Nutrition, a look at age, fostering and the subjectivity of ageing.
