On the notion of memory deixis

This book deals with the relationship between deixis and memory. In linguistic studies, there is no approach to this relationship. For this reason, we present Bühler and Benveniste’s position on the concept of deixis and a possible spatio-temporal translocation of enunciation. Afterwards, we deal phenomenologically with how deictic expressions function in terms of memory, based on philosophical approaches from Deleuze, Merleau-Ponty and Bergson. Finally, we analyse, through concrete examples, how the use of deixis is requested by the enunciator when remembering a physical object. The reflection of this study, unpublished in Brazil, reveals how deixis acts on the level of memory.
