Over the last 10 years, Brazilian agriculture has concentrated its efforts on valuing the social role of family farmers. Historically, scientific research has always valued and dedicated itself to experimentation and the production of production technologies aimed at big agribusiness and export crops. Under a new professional and scientific aegis, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences is now turning its attention to research and the generation of sustainable technologies that enhance small-scale production. It is in this context that we are presenting this work.
