India and ASEAN are universally acknowledged formidable and strongly emerging trading regions, comprising one of the most trade intensive entities in Asia and the world. Due to the mutual efforts of India and ASEAN to increase bilateral trade ties, trade between India and ASEAN has witnessed multi-fold increase since 1992 and achieved an intense trading partnership. The study finds that trade in manufactured goods between India and ASEAN forms the most significant component of India-ASEAN bilateral trade. The present study focuses on various technology levels in trade of manufactured goods between the partners. The analysis various tools and techniques to study India-ASEAN trade in manufactured goods at technology levels, such as trade composition analysis, trade intensity index, revealed comparative advantage, intra-industry trade, finger-kreinin index, the augmented gravity model of trade and trade potential analysis. Based on the findings of the objectives through the applied research methodologies, the thesis highlights pertinent policy implications and recommendations which can be instrumental for the future of India-ASEAN bilateral trade.
