For an implant to be successful in the long run, the biomaterial must be chosen carefully. Implant selection should minimize adverse biologic response while preserving appropriate function, as the human body does not fully accept all materials. Therefore a thorough knowledge of the various biomaterials used in dental implants is imperative. A humble effort has been made to summarize the various dental biomaterials that have been utilized in the past and the most recent materials that are now in use.
