Brazil is recognised as a major player on the international environmental scene and has actively participated in international forums within the United Nations (UN). In order to make a general contribution to broadening this debate in the country and with the ultimate aim of showing how the issue interacts with Brazilian foreign and development policies, we have written this book based on the Stockholm (1972), Eco-92 (1992) and Johannesburg (2002) conferences. It is particularly recommended reading for students, professionals and others interested in learning more about how, over the last few decades, the country’s natural characteristics have influenced its international projection.
