Uncontrolled intersections can be a major source of traffic congestion, accidents, and delays.Without any traffic control devices, drivers may have difficulty navigating through the intersection safely and efficiently. This can result in confusion, frustration, and even collisions between vehicles or with pedestrians. To address these issues, it is often necessary to improve the intersection by adding traffic control measures such as traffic signals, road markings, and signs. One way to do this is by converting the uncontrolled intersection into a controlled intersection. In our research project mentioned above, the uncontrolled intersection was developed as a rotary and signalized intersection. A rotary, also known as a roundabout, is a type of intersection where traffic flows in a circular pattern around a central island. This design helps to slow down traffic and reduce the risk of collisions. By adding traffic signals, the flow of traffic can be regulated even further, providing additional safety and efficiency benefits. To evaluate the effectiveness of this approach, the capacity of the rotary and signalized intersection was compared.
