Synchrotron radiation sources provide both spatial & temporal coherence and high flux monochromatic X-rays. This helps to reduce the data collection time and also increases signal-to-noise ratio. Moreover the beam-hardening effects can also be avoided which contribute to increase image quality. X-ray phase contrast imaging is an emerging technique made practical by high brilliance synchrotron X-ray sources and high-performance X-ray detectors. This technique is capable of providing improved contrast along with edge enhancement for weakly absorbing samples. This technique is used for the optimization of sample preparation parameters for pyrocarbon (PyC) coated zirconia micro-sphere and silicon carbide and PyC coated zirconia micro-sphere.
