In recent years, discussions about the process of including music education in schools have become a recurring theme following the approval of Law 11.769/2008, which makes music a compulsory subject in basic education. Understanding the objectives of music education in basic education is a topic that needs to be addressed at different levels of the education system. This work presents an analysis of the understanding of municipal education system managers in the micro-region of Blumenau regarding Law 11.769/08 and how music education is organised in the education systems investigated. We hope that the reflections and discussions presented in this book will contribute to the development of strategies for applying music education with pedagogical-musical practices that involve students and teachers in promoting dialogue with different musical expressions, resulting in new ways of relating to music in our contemporary society.
