Dialogue 1
A:What's the matter, Susan? You look very tense. Anything wrong?
B:It' my mother. She is in the hospital. I just got a call from the hospital.
A:What about her?
B:She has had heart problems for quite some time and the doctor said that she needs a bypass right away.
A:I'm sorry to hear that. Why don't you take some days off and stay with your mom in the hospital? She needs you there.
B:I know. But what she needs most is money for the heart surgery right now. I had asked all my relatives and all the people I could think of. I am still short of some money.
A:How much more do you need? See if I could help you.
B:Three thousand.
B:三千。
A:I have two thousands in my savings and I will call my boy friend for the balance.
B:Joe, it is so kind of you. I don't know how to thank you enough.
A:Susan, please don't mention it. That is what friends are for. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Let me call my boy friend right now.
B:Let me write it down the amount I borrow from you. As soon as I get the money, I will return it back to you.
A:Don't worry about it. OK. My boy friend said we could go and get the money now. Let's go.
A:別擔心。
B:Great, Joe, a million thanks.
Notes
1. tense(心理或神經)緊張的;引起緊張的。例如:
The situation suddenly became tense.
Dialogue 2
A:So how long have you known Mark?
B:We go way back. We've known each other since we were toddlers.
A:Really? You guys must be really tight.
A:真的嗎?
B:Yeah, We're buddy-buddy still.
A:He seems sincere, and trustworthy.
B:Well, he is, but he can be conniving at times.
A:What do you mean?
B:Well, I know that he would never stab me in the back. But I've seen him double-cross other people.
A:Oh, my! Really? I never thought he would be like that.
A:哦,天哪!
B:Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's like that all the time.
A:So, can I trust him or what?
B:Well, I think you should decide for yourself.
A:But I need someone that I can count on for this job.
B:Okay, Okay. You can trust him. I was just trying to give you a hard time.
A:Come on you're confusing me. Give it to me straight.
B:Actually, he's the most dependable person I know, and he would never turn on anyone.

I am buddy-buddy with him.
He is my buddy.
He is an experienced and trustworthy guide.
6. at times
Everyone may make mistakes at times.

Such a vicious lie is nothing but a stab in the back.
