ENGLISH DESCRIPTIONAN EPIC NOVEL ABOUT BARCELONA’S WORKING CLASS
A heartfelt chronicle of an era. A magnificent portrait of our children, families and neighborhoods by the winner of the first International "City of Úbeda" Historical Novel Contest.
A NEIGHBORHOOD. A FAMILY. A COMMON STRUGGLE.
The outskirts of Barcelona, 1970s. The neighborhood is changing fast. Factories and apartment buildings are transforming what were once vacant lots, but there’s still a lot to do. Protests are the order of the day, with the populace demanding schools and parks, as well as more rights in a Spain still ruled by Francoism. One of those protesters is Leonor. A native of Córdoba, she moved north ten years ago in search of a better future for her family. Now she is worried about the path her children have taken, especially Lucía. A defender of the working class, the young woman has achieved the dream of many of her peers in the Barcelona suburbs: a job at SEAT, the legendary car manufacturer. Her position, however, soon poses unexpected challenges for her family. Leonor, Lucía and, later, Esperanza and Laura, struggle to hold onto their ideals when life shows them its bitter side. Three generations of women will witness an era marked by violence and social upheaval, but also love and a quest for freedom. In the style of the great epic novels, this passionate family saga transports us to a Spain in the process of transformation, whose people and neighborhoods are the protagonists of a historic turning point.
