The story of the discovery and study of the well-preserved 3rd Century BCE body found in a Danish peat bog in 1952 is the subject of this beautifully made, oversized volume (10x11"). Following extensive discussion of the Grauballe Man's discovery and subsequent study of the body, the context of his time and environment is developed in chapters describing the geography of the peat bog and their uses, means of subsistence through hunting and gathering, other finds and archaeological sites in the area, and the evidence for religious practice. The volume is heavily illustrated with color plates of the body, the site, a variety of peat bogs, historic photos of the find, and related finds and Iron Age sites.
