Greek and Roman Historiography in Late Antiquity: Fourth to Sixth Century, A.D

Contributors without credentials analyze the development of historiography during the period, identifying some previously little known historians. They particularly point out how many ecclesiastical historians can be important sources for the political and social history of the Late Empire, because they and non-Christian historians frequently shared sources and methods though their worldviews and purposes differed. Among the topics are Ammianus Marcellinus; pagan historiography and the decline of the empire; the development of Greek historiography in Priscus, Malchus, and Candidus; and the church historians and Chalcedon.
