Across the Danube: Southeastern Europeans and Their Travelling Identities, 17th-19th C.

Studies present a comparative discussion of the history of migration movements from the long 17th century to the 19th century from southeastern Europe towards eastern-central Europe, in particular the Habsburg lands, the Danubian principalities, and further to Ukraine and Russia. They focus on groups and communities of immigrants, on their commercial and social networks, and the maintenance of links with their places of origin, but also address their integration as a result of the migrants’ readiness for integration, the policy of the host countries, and attitudes of local societies.
