Published in 1881, Heidi is a children’s fiction novel by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, the novel revolves around the life events of a 5-year-old orphan girl Heidi. The basic perspective of writing the book was to engage children and the one who loves children. The novel opens with Aunt Dete who is taking Heidi to stay with her grandfather who lives alone in the Swiss Alps. Heidi’s grandfather has been portrayed as a bitter old man who is an atheist and has become a recluse over the period of time. However, after the arrival of Heidi, the villagers expressed their concern about the little girl living with her grandfather, but it makes no difference as Dete has no other option than to leave her niece here.
