A review of ’Trafficked’ As a mental health professional, working with victims of sex-trafficking and sexual violence, I am aware of the complexities of this modern day form of slavery, threatening the dignity and security of millions throughout the world. Hence a special interest in picking this novel for review. The novel, Trafficked, explores the stark fears and insecurities of women forced into prostitution, experiencing elusive love, sexual perils, adventures of grief, jealousy and trauma in each of the chapters. Vien Singh explores the difficult geometry of human relations and the continued quest for meaning and connection through intricate description of people and places. His characters moving through fascinating trajectories, speak for themselves, sometimes in whispers, but also, through loud screams, in the context of a brothel, where societal norms are often upended and justice and coherence flounder. This is a deeply felt and beautifully written book, which will prove a rewarding read. Uma Chatterjee
