Perspectives of Two Island Nations: Singapore-New Zealand

Singapore and New Zealand are island nations that share many similarities and have enjoyed close relations for almost sixty years. They confront global challenges in today’s less stable world. As small and open economies, they share similar views on trade and are signatories to numerous multilateral trade agreements. 26 prominent experts from both Singapore and New Zealand cover a wide range of topics from each country’s history, foreign policy, trade, economic environment, sustainability and climate policies, creative sectors, to aspects of aging societies. Some authors also highlight similarities and differences between the two countries and their close cooperation in areas such as defence, trade and business.The Editor, Dr Anne-Marie Schleich, had a lifetime career as a German diplomat. She was posted to Singapore from 1982 until 1985 and was the German Ambassador to New Zealand from 2012 to 2016.
