Xinhua Ma, professor-level senior engineer, is a well-known expert in the field of natural gas. He is currently the head of Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development CNPC, the Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company, the Executive Member of the Chinese Petroleum Society, the Director of the Natural Gas Committee of the Chinese Petroleum Society, and the Deputy Director of the Petroleum Geology Committee of the Geological Society of China. Professor Ma Xinhua is an important figure in promoting the construction of underground gas storages in China. He has been taking the charge of site selection of underground gas storages in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and along the route of the West-East Gas Pipeline, and established the underground gas storage site selection evaluation index system and methods under the complex geological conditions in China; completed the feasibility study of the Jintan Salt Cavern Gas Storage project and opened up a new field in China - the construction of underground gas storage. The technical research team round Professor Ma Xinhua has overcome key technical challenges, such as efficient injection production in reservoirs with strong heterogeneousness, dynamic geological body sealing, deep ultra-low pressure reservoirs drilling, completion and reservoir protection, efficient treatment of large ground flow, which makes the underground gas storage site selection and construction technologies under the complex geological conditions at the leading position in the world.
