建築的故事：總統府一樓展覽（從總督府到總統府）（英文版）

國定古蹟中華民國總統府，完成於1919年，有著紅磚、白牆、拱門以及古典柱頭裝飾的總統府建築，在日治時期為臺灣總督府。這棟建築承載了很多的歷史，建築本身有也相當多的可看之處，我們將為您細數這棟建築物的種種特點，從建築的硬體與軟體空間開始介紹，並且對照同時期的殖民地建築樣式，特別是臺灣總督府與朝鮮總督府的比較，隨後為您介紹臺灣總督府新廳舍特別的起造過程及建築構造，並以總督府在二次大戰末期遭到美軍轟炸毀損後，建築再造並重新賦予活力與新貌的過程做結。
The Presidential Office Building, which, for the past 90 years, has served as the center of political power in Taiwan. The structure, completed in 1919 as the Governor-General’s Office at a time when Taiwan was under Japanese rule, has since been designated a national monument by the government of the Republic of China. It features red bricks, white walls, arched doors, and Classical capitals on its columns. Various features of the structure itself and of the events that have taken place here lend themselves to starting off our journey. Here we will consider for comparison other specimens of contemporary Colonial architecture, particularly the Governor-General’s Office in Korea. You will also learn about the special construction process used for the building and delve into special features of the structure itself. This section of the exhibition ends with a look at the Presidential Office Building in the days since World War II, when it was reconstructed (having suffered repeated Allied bombings) and given new vitality and a new look after the war’s end.
