作者簡介

原著：亞瑟．柯南．道爾爵士（Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, 1859-1930）

　　亞瑟．柯南．道爾爵士出生蘇格蘭愛丁堡，自1887年《血字的研究》（A Study in Scarlet）起，連續出版多篇長短不一的精彩探案故事。他以在愛丁堡大學攻讀醫學時的教師約瑟夫．貝爾博士為雛型，創造出福爾摩斯偵探這個角色。因此，在福爾摩斯身上，可以發現一個好醫生的特質：精通於觀察，邏輯，演繹和診斷。1892年時，他將這些以福爾摩斯為主角的偵探小說編彙為《福爾摩斯探案》。他原想在1894年時將此系列終結，卻因此引起讀者的不悅，於是他又在1902年《福爾摩斯歸來記》（The Return of Sherlock Holmes）中令福爾摩斯起死回生。

　　他的作品合乎邏輯的推理引人入勝，結構起伏跌宕，人物形象鮮明，並涉及當時英國社會現實。
