作者簡介

HERBERT GEORGE WELLS（1866－1946）

　　英國作家，於1866年出生，少年時代是個狂熱的讀書迷，長大後曾進入科學師範學校攻讀生物學，後來又進入新聞學院，畢業後成為記者，專門撰寫科學方面文章，並寫過許多非小說類的科幻文章。1891年起威爾斯開始寫一些短篇文章，其中最重要的著作莫過於1895年的《時光機器》（THE TIME MACHINE），引起社會轟動，同時也奠定了科幻小說作家的地位，接下來他又陸續發表《人魔島》（THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU, 1896）、《隱形人》（THE INVISIBLE MAN, 1897）、《星際大戰》（THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, 1898）等膾炙人口的科幻佳作，至今仍深受歡迎，並被拍攝成電影，造成轟動。
