During 1945-46, the author wrote scores of editorials with fluent English to express his opinions about situations at that times and criticize administrative policies, readers seem to go back the old time by reading those stories …
The author was one of a handful of English journalists in the 20th-century China in a position as an Editor-in-Chief in an English newspaper. The book includes 46 English editorials written by him with Chinese translatiion. From these articles readers would acquire numerous snapshots of China and its prominent figures after World War II.
As a reporter and the editor- in-chief, Sun Jui-chin wrote innumerable English articles, many native English readers could not believe these articles penned by a person with Chinese mother tongue. Not only with excellent English, he also showed sympathy to underdogs with sense of justice, and frequently pointed out governmental mistakes.

China’s friendship with the United States is of long standing and that friendship has never been marred by any serious differences. American assistance has been given generously and repeatedly to many spheres of activity in this country. Of all the foreign armed forces stationed here before the war, the Americans were mostly friendly and the best liked. Whether it was the 15 Infantry in Tientsin and Chinwangtao or the Marines in Peiping, their attitude was ever one of tolerance and goodwill towards the Chinese people and of understanding and cooperation towards the Chinese authorities.
Since the conclusion of the war with Japan, the people of North China have been given renewed and concrete evidence of this American attitude. When the Marines landed at Taku last October they came as allies and friends to take over the protection of vast areas from the Japanese. Their arrival brought security and a new breath of life and averted an impending political and economic chaos. Their ready assistance in disarming the common enemy and reopening vital lines of communications cannot be over-estimated. The public here knows full well the important part of the Marines have played and are still playing in this section of the country. Their generous services are recognized and will always remain recognized.
Later, when Central Government officials and troops gradually began to drift in, the importance of the American forces in the work of repatriating the Japanese, in keeping free major rail routes, in operating a supremely necessary air transportation system, in reopening strategic harbours and in shipping much-needed coal to the south was made clear time and again. These services gave back freedom and hope to a people long oppressed by an alien foe and, at the time of the latter’s defeat, threatened by new forces and disintegration.
The initial security duties of the Marines in North China have been increasingly turned over to the Chinese authorities in proportion to the latter’s ability to continue their smooth execution. Until such time when the Chinese government will have organized an orderly process of administration the presence of our American friends is needed as a stabilizing force.
The Americans may rest assured what their services are fully appreciated by the people and Government of China. There are soreheads everywhere; the few in both camps who growl and grumble are really so few and unwarranted that no right-thinking persons need take them seriously.
Many of the Marines here are veterans of hard-fought campaigns in the Pacific; the path of their heroic fight from Pearl Harbor to the shores of North China is studded with graves of their comrades who, in the last analysis, died for the liberation of China as well as for their country. Honour and gratitude is due not only to the dead but also to those who survived and many of these are now among us as guests and friends.
It is difficult, perhaps, for a soldier to understand that the task to maintain peace can be as long and as strenuous as a real battle. But the fact remains. The presence of every individual American serviceman here is a contributing factor to the future of peace and well-being of this country. The tour of duty may be monotonous but it is none the less vitally important. The people of North China will never forget that is was the First Division of the United States Marines who came and rescued them in their hour of greatest danger.

He courageously voiced his opposition to numerous government policies, expressed his sympathy to the underdogs and the poor. Unfortunately he was asked to resign from the position as he was too critical of the Government.
