Unit 8 比較句 1 Vampires 吸血鬼

英文中，形容詞的比較類別及基本句型如下：

I. 使用原級形容詞做同等比較時用as…as來表達，as…as中間置放的形容詞必用原級，即形容詞原始的字。S + as + 形容詞原級 + as...，用於肯定句。S + not as / not so + 形容詞原級 + as…，則用於否定句，表示較劣等的情境。

* This novel is as interesting as that one.

這本小說跟那本小說一樣有趣。

* The watch cost as much money as that one.

這隻手錶跟那隻手錶一樣貴。

II. 使用比較級形容詞比較時，優等比較中，形容詞是單音節字的句型是主詞加比較級 (~er) + than…，形容詞是多音節字時是more + 形容詞原級 + than…。劣等比較則是主詞加less + 形容詞原級 + than…。

* The apartment is smaller than the mansion.

這座公寓比那棟豪宅小。

* Bill is more intelligent than Tim.

比爾比提姆聰明。

III. 表示「逐漸…」的比較，常用 –er / more and –er / more。表示「比例」的比較，則常用 the + 形容詞比較級 …, the + 形容詞比較級 ….。

* More and more people are not satisfied with the traffic jam

downtown. 越來越多人不滿於市區的塞車。

* Fewer and fewer students are seen to hang around in this cyber café.

越來越少的學生被看見在這座網咖流連。

IV. 形容詞最高級比較時則用主詞加動詞 + 定冠詞the，後接最高級，加上介系詞of或in再加上某一範圍的片語。

* Mary is the tallest girl in her class.

瑪莉是班上最高的女生。

* The Nile is the longest river in the world.

尼羅河是全世界最長的河流。

* To Willy, English is the most important subject of all.

對威力來說，英文是所有科目當中最重要的。

V. 修飾形容詞比較級的副詞及副詞片語可以是much, far, even, still, a little, a lot, a great / good deal…… 等。

* Your hair is much longer than Susan’s.

你的頭髮比蘇珊的頭髮長多了。

* The Wangs are now living a life much more comfortable than before.

王家人目前過的生活比以往舒服多了。

* Edward can make a speech a lot louder than his competitors.

愛德華演講時比他的對手大聲。

A vampire is a mysterious being who feeds on the blood of living creatures to sustain its life. Since the early 19th century, frightful vampires roaming streets at midnight have been described in legends. They were described as pale-faced evils in a black cape, obsessed with drinking blood. They feared the sunlight, so they came out after midnight and went back to coffin the dawn. They drank fresh blood from human victims for immortality of life. According to vampire hunters, the best time to permanently end a vampire’s life is in the daytime. And the best way to kill it is to penetrate its heart by a sharpened stick. Besides, by holding garlic and crosses in hand, one can also keep vampires away. In the past, among all the vampire figures created in fictional stories, Count Dracula was probably the most famous of all time. However, nowadays, the vampires in the recently released Twilight movie series seem to be comparatively powerful. Garlic, holy crosses, and sunlight can harm them no more. And the young vampire characters attract even more young audiences than the old Count Dracula. With the thriving adaptations of vampire myths, it seems that the related images of such mysterious creatures will remain vivid among the public.
