●Star fruit – also known as carambola – is a sweet and juicy tropical fruit with five distinct ridges running its length. Carambola’s roots, branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits all can be used for medicinal purposes. Sadly, the industry and the environment suffered great losses due to unsustainable practices during the 1980s. Since shrimp are relatively easy to grow and need only six months to mature from an egg to an adult shrimp, it’s not surprising that shrimp is an ingredient in many traditional dishes in Taiwan.
