LOGLINE-A mourning man develops an interest in postmortem photography following the death of his wife. In his pursuit to seize her essence, he stumbles upon disturbing otherworldly images on his negatives, which seem to whisper dark secrets from beyond the grave, pulling him closer to the edge of insanity, and eventually transforming him into a serial killer.
SUMMARY-
The year is 1891, when a perpetual, sooty gloom settles not just over London, but deep within the heart of Blackwood Manor. Its master, Julian Thorne, is a man shattered, a ghost haunting his own life since the unexpected passing of his wife, Evelyn. The grand, echoing halls of the manor, once filled with her laughter and the rustle of her skirts, are now a tomb of silence, each tick of the grandfather clock a hammer blow against his grief. Clutching a few, beloved drawings of Evelyn-a faint, charcoal echo that fails to capture her luminous spirit-Julian becomes possessed by a singular, desperate obsession: to restore her image, not as a blurry memory, but with the vital, breathing life he so achingly remembers. He retreats into the new and esoteric art of photography, transforming his study into a chaotic alchemist’s den of pungent chemicals, polished glass plates, and the dim red glow of a darkroom lamp.
However, his first results are monstrous parodies-flat, soulless imprints where her knowing smile becomes a grimace and her lively eyes stare out as vacant, silver-nitrate voids. Each failure is a fresh torment, proving that her true essence remains cruelly imprisoned in the realm of the dead, forever beyond the grasp of his lens. This repeated failure cracks the foundation of his sanity, twisting his noble grief into a corrosive madness. To capture a soul, one needs a soul...The solution, born in the fevered depths of his broken mind, is horrifyingly simple. He will no longer attempt to develop her image in a tray of chemicals. He will acquire a new subject, a living canvas upon which to project Evelyn’s ghost. He decides he must find a woman-a real, breathing woman who bears a likeness to his lost love-and through his lens, and by whatever means necessary, he will not just photograph her, but extract the very essence of life that was stolen from him.
