All his life Larry Crenshaw has tried to fit in. He wants to be liked. He wants to be as normal as everyone else. But inside, Larry is twisted up with desire. When he was young, his mother had found him with Lola and dragged him out of the tall grass to fill him with horror stories about the things women want from a man.

Now married to a cold woman named Elaine, Larry has to get drunk in order to have sex with her. And she makes no secret of the fact that she hates it.
