Close to retirement, Peter Holroyd investigates a reported Chinese stele in Mexico. He hopes to prove his theory that the Chinese visited America, before the Europeans did.

Holroyd’s journey becomes treacherous in the midst of drug wars, as he is tasked with reaching out to an informant entrenched in the chaos. Yet, amidst his pursuit of historical truth, a shadow now looms over his integrity yet again, as a rookie journalist probes into suspicions of his involvement in the illicit drug trade.

Guided by a youthful local ally, Holroyd’s relentless pursuit leads him to the elusive stele, and ancient glyphs. His quest takes a perilous turn when he stumbles upon a harrowing massacre, thrusting him into the crosshairs of danger alongside an American official, and an old acquaintance, Li Feng.

Trapped in a deadly game of cat and mouse, Holroyd finds himself ensnared by Li Feng’s machinations, coerced into deciphering the inscrutable messages etched upon the stele. The people who could assist him, are compromised by blackmail, love, attacks, or threats.
