Professor Bujang B.K. Huat graduated in 1983 from the Polytechnic of Central London, UK, and obtained his MSc and PhD at the Imperial College London, and the Victoria University Manchester, UK, in 1986 and 1991 respectively. He has spent his professional career as a Professor in Geotechnical Engineering, in the Department of Civil Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia, one of Malaysia’s five research universities. Currently he serves as the Dean of School of Graduate Studies of the same university. His special area of interest is in the field of geotechnical and geological engineering, and slope engineering, and has authored and co-authored 18 books, edited 10 conference proceedings, and published more than 100 journal and conference proceedings papers in the field of soil mechanics and foundation engineering.
Professor Faisal Haji Ali has been actively involved in research and consultancy in the field of geotechnical engineering particularly related to ground improvement, partially saturated soils, reinforced earth, piled foundations and slope instability. His current
research activities include new and creative ideas involving development and application of a new pile instrumentation technique, development of a new keystone system for soil retention, use of waste material/soil mixtures as backfill materials, application of vegetation for slope stabilization, development of a new landfill liner and a new ground improvement technique. He has served on a number of editorial boards and many committees related to his area of expertise and been invited to present keynote papers at international and local conferences. He has published nine books and more than 250 publications in journals and conference proceedings. Currently he is the Director of Research and Innovation Management Centre and a professor of geotechnical engineering at the National Defence University of Malaysia.
