Iris M. Kirkwood is an African American woman from Buffalo New York. Self taught she considers herself a consummate student, always interested in the life around her to recreate versions in her art. As an artist Iris M. Kirkwood does not limit herself to the reality of the life around her. She includes fantastical elements and combinations of thought in collage like settings that are unique to her Visual Narratives. It is not the largess of the world that populate her art, it is the little moments in life, the small humiliations, shame, joy, jealousy that consumes her.
