This fairy tale includes a mystery and a challenge. Prince Nicolai, sole heir to the crown, is required by law to become engaged before his twenty-first birthday, a mere week away. He comes up with a fanciful idea to meet his soulmate in the little time he has left. He dictates a decree, one in which he invites all young women who are interested in marrying him to attend a party at the palace. Since he wishes to marry someone who shares his values and interests, the prince asks each hopeful maiden to bring an empty container for the gift she imagines he has poured his heart and soul into choosing for his one true love.
