Alice Dittman was born in 1930 into a Nebraska family whose business was banking. Having lived most of a century at the time of this writing, she has witnessed incredible growth and changes in that industry. Having lost her husband early to cancer, she raised her children within the pressures and privileges of a male-dominated workplace. In these pages Alice has related fun, facts, and even a few foibles she experienced along the way. But her hope is to have given the reader a glimpse at a purposeful life-a life committed to principles of integrity that guided her personal mission to facilitate other folks’ dreams whenever possible.
Stepping Stones chronicles the life a woman who broke barriers in a man’s profession. As the first female president of a commercial Nebraska bank, and the first woman to chair numerous boards historically populated by males only, she has led the way toward leveling the playing field in the banking industry-always doing so with fairness, humor, and integrity. This is her story.
