How does school engagement mediate student achievement? Starting from the observation that the academic engagement of students in Burkina Faso is poorly documented, especially in terms of its correlation with student performance, this book focuses on analyzing the role played by this psychological construct in determining different levels of student performance. In this book, you’ll find an analysis of the relationship between three types of engagement - affective, behavioral and cognitive - and student achievement. The book highlights the significant influence of school engagement on the quality of learning, and hence on student performance. More specifically, it reveals that cognitive and affective engagement are the most strongly correlated with student performance. Behavioral type, while correlated with academic performance, is less so. Psychological well-being, too, is linked to school performance.
