The purpose of this book is to give religious people an alternative to the Twelve Steps theory and disease model of addiction treatment. Myers argues that religion and faith work best in stopping addiction when it is accompanied by positive beliefs about oneself and a choice approach to addictive behaviors. Today, religious people tend to be either neglected or misdirected to deterministic approaches like the Twelve Steps theory and disease model of addiction treatment. It is hoped that this book can offer an alternative that is both biblically based and more effective than what is currently presented to religious people. This book can be used as a resource for those who wish to explore the relationship of faith and spirituality in addiction treatment. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter are designed to help the reader process the information in the chapter and encourage further discussion.
