Fueled by Major League Baseball (MLB) ambitions, Nearo (Bub) Williams lives his young life in pursuit of that dangling possibility. He is driven by love of the game. MLB entry as a pitcher his number one objective.

During the journey he becomes a steadfast student of baseball. He feeds his appetite for excellence by studying early great players of Negro Leagues Baseball (NLB) as well as MLB. In his eyes they are the yardstick to follow for professional greatness.

Baseball is his trusted confidant as he faces obstacles and adversity along the way. To such an extent that baseball metaphors become a way of life in setting goals as he moves into community service, social activism in the 1960s, and within his career.

In the days of the struggle for civil rights, he interacts with several prominent leaders of the time. Some become cherished, lifelong friends.
