This travelogue is a revealing account of England in the middle of the Industrial Age over a century and a half ago, as viewed by the author from a nation then colonized by Britain. It highlights the profound and, in some ways, seemingly unbridgeable chasm between Britain-molded by over a century of almost galloping growth in science, technology, and manufacturing-and the barely touched people of his home region of Gujarat in western India.
