The general objective of this study was to analyze the financing of rural education in the municipality of Santarém - Pará, in the light of the educational legislation in force from 2012 to 2015. Based on the assumption that, since the 1988 Magna Carta, the Brazilian state has committed itself to treating formal education with equality, regardless of the region and/or whether it is urban or rural, the main research question is how was rural education funded in the municipality of Santarém - Pará between 2012 and 2015? The research was based on bibliographical and documentary research. Analysis of the data catalogued showed that rural education is still placed at a lower level than urban education, with fewer resources, less technical assistance/monitoring, fewer conditions for access and permanence in school, following the historical legal process presented. And that in the municipality of Santarém - Pará there is clearly no local policy specifically aimed at rural education.
