Two graduate students are assigned to a remote astronomical observatory dedicated to the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Crime raises its ugly head, accompanied by a brutal murder. The criminals attempt to hold the students for ransom. Rescue of the two students would cause international strife and a regretable permanent end to the research of the facility.
