Billy From Scratch is the life and the world as seen through to eyes of a small child during the "Great Depression." It was also when the rumble of World War II was heard around the world. The world was on edge.
Raisin lived an unusual life. Her first years were spent in learning survival in the wild, magnificent Rocky Mountains of New Mexico. When very young, she experienced being near the heart of a raging forest fire. That experience still lives with her today.
Later she owned an orphan cub that was killed when a work horse kicked the little bear in the head. That was her first touch with death and her first driven lesson of responsibility. Two more lessons quickly followed: Her first encounter with an Indian was a scary thing only to be completely turned around after his good deed.
Her next lesson was an encounter with a mountain lion. However, her life was not all trauma. There were wonderful times trout fishing with her father, or watching stunning sunsets, or listening to the sweet whispering of the winds gently moving through the tall pines, and of course, there was the singing mountain streams.
