Back to Dixie explores the dramatic effect that two presidential administrations with polar opposite views have on America’s race policies in the not-too-distant future. President Jim Weldon fulfilled a campaign promise to his supporters by passing the SCALE Act, which combated systemic racism and reduced disparities in income, education, and health among races.

However, despite its success, many were not happy with the success of the SCALE Act. The new law had powerful opponents, including Strong America, a conservative organization made up of a group of super-rich men, leaders in business and politics. Strong America identified and groomed Willie Earl for the presidency, then bankrolled his successful campaign. In turn, Earl swiftly repealed SCALE upon taking office.

Under the leadership of President Earl, two landmark laws were enacted: the Voting Rights Amendment Act and the National Workfare Act of 2029. The Voting Rights Amendment Act revoked the voting rights of a significant portion of Black and low-income citizens in the country, while the National Workfare Act required millions to enroll in a program that promised job training, but ultimately reduced them to being wards of the federal government, stripped of most of their rights and forced to work simply to survive.

The story follows the journey of Michael, Devin, and Odessa, longtime friends who dedicated their lives to the fight for social justice after witnessing the tragic and senseless death of a classmate in high school. They ultimately join REACH, a covert organization formed in opposition of Strong America, and risk everything to rescue loved ones and countless others from the grips of Workfare, an oppressive program viewed by many as a form of modern-day slavery. Back to Dixie takes readers on an emotional journey through an alternate reality that is both riveting and terrifying. It will stay with you long after turning the final page.
