Dr. Kavita S. Jerath has vast experience in the field of education for thirty years. She has enjoyed educating and working with Engineering students from multicultural backgrounds at the University level. Her expertise in an extensive range of courses under the umbrella of Condensed Matter Physics, Electromagnetic Theory, Electrical Sciences and Electronics is noteworthy in her professional achievements.
Having been involved with Physics and Engineering courses and their numerous constituents, she was determined to fashion a course that connects Science and Technology to Liberal Arts. Dr. Jerath expanded her field of study in the realm of Humanities which was uniquely crafted and attracted popularity. The course Science, Technology & Modernity aims to illuminate and explicate the connection from the domain of Philosophy and Sociology to Sciences and Innovative Technologies in our modern age.
This course spiked interests of a culturally and ethnically diverse student body and minds. Such courses aim to build bridges between disciplines that do not ordinarily meet each other in an undergraduate curriculum, such as sociology and science, law and science, anthropology and technology, environmental science and political theory, or technology and philosophy. Through her academic and professional background in Physics, she wanted to bring a synergy between the disciplines.
There was no looking back once she started teaching a liberal arts course like Science Technology & Modernity and observing the students interest got her thinking that writing a book on would be the best way forward for her.
Her book is not based on any one specific discipline. It spans across several disciplines. In the book, high and low culture are not portrayed as adversaries, but rather different tools inside the same tool box. What is missing from the publishing landscape is the relation between Science, Technology and Modernity and how it creates a sense of psychological anxiety, cultural fascination, scientific and economic opportunity.
Dr. Jerath sincerely hopes to fill this gap through her book.
Her journey in life with her various multicultural experiences intrigued her to take this profound step. Dr. Jerath was born in India to a fairly open- minded and well-established family. Her interest in Physics was always phenomenal and she ended up pursuing it as her career. Having spent more than half her life in Dubai and Canada had her completely entrenched into the diverse background of multicultural minds and behavior in individual for which she is thankful. She is also a follower of Buddhism and has practiced Reiki in her earlier years. These grounded a sense of focus in mind and self. Currently she resides in Dubai with her son and her daughter is based in Houston, Texas with her husband.
